Patrick Bamford outlines his next England steps and reflects on new Leeds United contract

Patrick Bamford believes that his England future is all down to himself after he made his first senior appearance for his country in a 4-0 win over Andorra.

The Leeds United forward was rewarded for his club form by Gareth Southgate and was named in the squad for the September internationals, but didn't feature against Hungary and Poland.

It still proved to be a valuable experience for Bamford, who played 62 minutes in the rout over Andorra at Wembley and was involved in an international camp for the first time.

With just over two weeks to go until the next set of England matches, the 28-year-old has admitted that he hopes to be 'involved' in future camps and wants to 'push on' following his maiden cap.

"It's down to me and how I perform over the next run of games," Bamford told The Official Leeds United Podcast.

"It's something that now I've had a taste of it I want to be involved more and more.

"It's something I want to work towards and I can't take it for granted.

"I want to push on and I've said in previous interviews that there's a lot of good strikers who have been on the edge and haven't been involved like I have."

It hasn't been a bad few weeks for Bamford as he also penned a new and improved contract at Leeds back in August, keeping him at the club until 2026.

He was honoured for his consistent performances in a Whites shirt, having scored 17 goals and chipped in with eight assists in the Premier League last season.

Bamford also spoke about signing that deal and is now relieved that it's finally been sorted following a summer of discussions.

He added: "It (the contract) was something that was talked about all summer.

"Ideally, I wanted to get it done before the season started but in the end it was about sorting out the final details and that dragged it out a few more weeks. Now it's done, there's relief that I've finally sorted out my future."
