Patrick Bamford lifts the lid on the competition to be Leeds United's penalty taker

Patrick Bamford says Marcelo Bielsa and his staff keep a typically close eye on Leeds United's penalty takers in training to decide where spot-kick duties lie.

Leeds have won two penalties this season and scored them both - although Mateusz Klich was bailed out against West Ham as his spot-kick was initially saved before being retaken as Lukasz Fabianski was off his line.

Bamford then took Leeds' next penalty which proved to be the winning goal against Burnley last month.

Did Leeds United miss Klich against Newcastle?

The pair also shared spot-kick duties last season, both scoring two and missing one in Leeds' Championship-title winning season.

Currently, the job is Bamford's to lose and he has explained how the team decides who gets the nod.

"Through training, at the end we take penalties, just a handful of us," Bamford told the official Leeds United podcast.

"Whenever you are doing anything on the pitch, it's always noted down, whether it's the manager or one of the coaches. So they note down how many you've taken, how many you've missed. It gets decided like that.

"I was the first choice until I missed last season, then Klichy took over, then when Klichy missed it goes back to me.

"Part of last season I think Pablo was in the mix, but I think he hit the post on one of them, so then it was just down to me and Klichy. At the minute it's me. Hopefully I keep on duties."

Since Bielsa arrived at the club Leeds have scored eight of the 11 penalties they have been awarded, with Bamford notching four out of the five spot kicks he has taken for the club.
