Patrick Bamford issues fitness update as he reveals injury 'struggle' in build-up to Fulham win

Patrick Bamford says it was touch and go as to whether he would be able to feature against Fulham following the injury he picked up against Chelsea but has reassured Leeds United fans that he is expecting to be fully-fit soon.

The striker netted for the Whites in their 2-1 win at Craven Cottage before being replaced after 77 minutes.

Speaking on the Leeds United podcast, Bamford revealed he did not think he would be able to feature in the game and admitted he had been struggling to walk post-match.

He said: "To be honest, two days after the game, I was struggling to walk, I was in a right pickle.

"I’m a little bit better now, but I went into the game and I didn’t expect, I know Marcelo said in the press conference a day before, that I’d be fit and expected to play but I didn’t think I was going to be able to play until I did the fitness test at the hotel on the morning of the game.

"Even then, I thought I was going to struggle here and the fitness coach [Benoit Delaval] said: ‘Nah, you’ll be alright’.

"I was like: ‘Benny, I’m struggling a bit here’ and he said, ‘No, trust me, you’ll be fine’.

"It was one of them where, in my head, I thought there was no way I could play the game but I’m glad they pushed me through because once the adrenaline kicked in and everything worked out the way it did, it was a good job I did play."

Bamford is still recovering from the game but says he should be fit to feature for the Whites after the international break.

He said: “My calf is sore, but there wasn’t any tear or anything. It’s a bit of overuse, really, a bit of overcompensating, but I’ll be alright.

"We played Friday, we had Saturday, Sunday, Monday off.

"I had the scan on Monday, went in for a bit of treatment - I’ve had treatment for the last two days and I think I’ll train at the back-end of this week, so they’ve given me a few days."
