Patrick Bamford imagines what could have been if Ben White had stayed at Leeds United

Patrick Bamford believes Ben White would be in the England squad if he had remained at Leeds United.

The Whites travel to the Amex Stadium on Saturday, where White will face his former club for the second time this campaign.

The 23-year-old played an instrumental role in Leeds' promotion to the Premier League but Brighton were determined to retain his services, knocking back several bids from Leeds, the largest believed to be £25million.

White signed a new four-year deal after the transfer saga ended and has started 31 of the Seagulls' 33 Premier League matches, featuring at right centre-back and holding midfield.

Ahead of Leeds clash with Brighton, Bamford stated that he's surprised to see Graham Potter's side still involved in a relegation battle, whilst claiming White would have been involved with Gareth Southgate's England squad if he'd moved to Elland Road permanently.

"I'm looking forward to it, the fact Ben (White) is back there makes it more interesting too," Bamford told The Official Leeds Utd Podcast.

"To be fair, I've WhatsApped him and he's enjoying it there. It's where he is from, he's back with his family and friends but on the pitch, there are no friends.

"If he'd have stayed at Leeds, I think he'd be in the England squad. It's one of them. It'll be a good match.

"I'm surprised they're still struggling with relegation because they play good football. I'm sure it will be a good game."
