Patrick Bamford charged over Aston Villa dive and faces two-match ban

Leeds forward Patrick Bamford has been charged with "successful deception of a match official" following the Sky Bet Championship match with Aston Villa on Sunday.

Bamford, who could be banned for two games, has been charged following an incident with Aston Villa midfielder Anwar El Ghazi.

The Villa player was originally shown a red card for violent conduct but this has now been rescinded by the Football Association.

In addition, both clubs have been charged with failing to ensure their players acting in an orderly fashion following the melee after Leeds' goal, which led to Marcelo Bielsa ordering his players to allow Villa to equalise.

Bamford has until 18:00 BST on Wednesday to respond to the charge and decide whether or not he wants to appeal, while the clubs have until 18:00 BST on Friday to respond to the charges against them.

If the two-match ban is upheld then Bamford will miss Leeds' final match of the regular season at Ipswich on Sunday and the first leg of their playoff semi-final.

An FA statement said: "It is alleged the Leeds United player's behaviour in the 72nd minute of the fixture, which involved committing a clear act of simulation that led to Anwar El Ghazi being dismissed, amounts to improper conduct."
