Patricia O'Connor murder trial hears grandmum's head and hands found in plastic bag in mountains

A grandmother’s head and hands were found in a black plastic bag in mountains used as a “dumping ground” for her remains, a court heard on Friday.

The jury at the trial of Kieran Greene, 34, was also told the results of a postmortem confirmed retired hospital worker Patricia O’Connor suffered a “violent death”.

A forensic scientist said he found no blood-staining belonging to the deceased at her home in Rathfarmham, South Dublin, where it is alleged the 61-year-old received a minimum of three blows to the head with a solid implement in the downstairs bathroom.

The Central Criminal Court has heard the body of Mrs O’Connor was dismembered into 15 separate parts that were found at nine different locations in the Dublin and Wicklow mountains in June 2017.

Det Gda Janette O’Neill said it was her opinion Mrs O’Connor did not die at any of the locations which seemed to be “a dumping ground” for the remains.

She went to Mrs O’Connor’s home where it appeared attempts had been made to paint the hallway and bathroom.

Greene of Mountainview Park, Rathfarnham, has pleaded not guilty to murder at the same address on May 29, 2017. The trial before Mr Justice Paul McDermott continues on Monday.
