Patrice Evra Instagram post mocks Manchester City following Champions League agony

Patrice Evra took to social media to mock Manchester City following their Champions League final defeat.

City were denied their first European triumph in Porto as Chelsea lifted their second Champions League crown.

Kai Havertz's first-half goal decided the all-English final, as Pep Guardiola's side faltered on the biggest stage of all.

City have been desperate to end their wait for elite European glory and defeat at the hands of Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea represents a sour end to an otherwise imperious season, reports the Mirror.

United fans rejoiced after City's defeat, despite enduring misery themselves three days earlier in the hands of Villarreal in Gdansk.

The Red Devils were huge favourites for the Europa League final but ended another season without a trophy in devastating circumstances on penalties.

But that did not stop supporters, including Evra, from trolling City on social media.

Evra, who won five Premier League titles and a Champions League during his spell at Old Trafford, posted a brutal Instagram picture just after the final whistle in Portugal.

The Frenchman was clearly over United's final defeat as he posted an image of club icon Sir Bobby Charlton looking at the Champions League trophy, alongside a teammate with his face superimposed.

"Sir Bobby can you check for City's name again? Nope, still not here Pat... I love this game," the photo caption read.

"I need it to ask Sir Bobby to check again!!! Good night everyone," the post caption followed.

The photo derived from United's first ever European Cup success in 1968, where they defeated Benfica in the final at Wembley.

United have won two Champions League's since that famous triumph, including the zenith of Evra's career in 2008 in Moscow where Sir Alex Ferguson's men overcame Chelsea in a shootout.
