Patrice Evra says Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer comparing Bruno Fernandes to Paul Scholes "is a crime".
Scholes, who won 11 Premier League titles at Old Trafford, is widely considered to be one of the Red Devils' all-time best players, and received much recognition from his peers after he retired.
Fernandes has only been at United since January, which is why Evra found the comparison between the two players a little strange.
Evra said on Sky Sports, ahead of United's clash with Tottenham on Friday: "I was in shock when Ole compared him to Paul Scholes, because I think when you compare a player to Paul Scholes it is a crime. "
Evra went on to explain why Solskjaer may have made the comparison, heaping praise on the start Fernandes has made at Old Trafford.
The former United left-back added: "But actually I understand what he means, the way he dictates the game. Since he arrived, its the first time I have seen a player being in charge at United.
"You can see his position, he always wants the ball, he's always in the right place, he plays really simply.
"I was really, really surprised when I saw the impact Bruno Fernandes had for Man United, so I hope he will play in the same way he was playing before [ coronavirus]."
