Patrice Evra explains why Liverpool fans shouldn't fear Trent Alexander-Arnold absence

Patrice Evra has insisted Liverpool fans should have no concerns about playing James Milner out of position.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold out with a hamstring injury to further add to Jurgen Klopp 's defensive woes, Milner started at right-back against Leicester City.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are both ruled out with long-term injuries and whilst Alexander-Arnold will be back much sooner, his influence in the team offensively can't be underestimated.

With Nathaniel Clyne leaving the club in the summer, Neco Williams is Liverpool 's only recognised cover for Alexander-Arnold, leaving Milner as the man to fill in, as he has on both flanks at full-back in recent seasons.

However, Evra has insisted that Milner "could play as a goalkeeper", although has concerns about Liverpool's centre-back options, with only Joel Matip and Fabinho as fit, senior choices.

“Liverpool has a strong team, but my worry would be at centre-back," Evra told Sky Sports before the Reds' win over Leicester City.

"I like Fabinho, he can play there, but Vardy is really dangerous when he pops up between the centre-backs with his speed and Fabinho with a hamstring injury, it’s gonna be tough.

"I’m not worried, though, about James Milner - this player can play everywhere. He’s one of my favourites. I had such a tough game against this player because he was defending even more than myself.

"You can put him in as a goalkeeper and he will do the job.”
