Patrice Evra disagrees with Manchester United great Roy Keane over David de Gea criticism

Patrice Evra leapt to the defence of David de Gea as he disagreed with Roy Keane's claims that the Spaniard is 'the most overrated goalkeeper'.

Manchester United's number one has come under intense scrutiny since the Premier League restarted following a series of high-profile errors.

De Gea was at fault for Chelsea's second goal during their FA Cup semi-final defeat last weekend, allowing Mason Mount's shot to squirm through his hands and into the corner of the net.

Despite criticism, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stuck by De Gea, naming him in goal to face West Ham on Monday night and defending him in the media.

Keane blasted De Gea for his failure to keep out Steven Bergwijn's shot during Manchester United's 1-1 draw against Tottenham last month.

“I am sick to death of this goalkeeper," Keane said during a furious rant at half-time. "I would be fighting him at half-time. There is no getting away from that. I would be swinging punches at that guy.

“This is a standard save for an established international goalkeeper. I am flabbergasted. I am fed up of that goalkeeper. De Gea is the most overrated goalkeeper I’ve seen in a long time."

However, Evra stuck up for De Gea on Wednesday and said he believes his years of consistent performances shouldn't be forgotten, disagreeing with Keane that he is 'overrated'.

“I know Roy (Keane) says he’s the most overrated goalkeeper, but I don’t agree at all with that," Evra told Sky Sports.

"Of course, at the present, nobody gives any credit to him, but to question his position, I’m not happy with that.

"I’m a little bit sad because he’s being criticised. He deserves some of that recently but to say that De Gea is overrated, I think that’s harsh.”
