Patrice Evra confirms 'important talks' with Manchester United over new role at the club

Former Manchester United captain Patrice Evra has opened up on "important talks" with his former club about a possible return.

The ex Red Devils' defender has been with the youth set up recently as he works towards acquiring his coaching badges.

He clarified that he is not employed by his old club yet, but the former French international admits he has held talks with the club's bosses as he looks to land a permanently position at Old Trafford.

Evra spent eight years at the English Premier League club, recently hung up his boots in July, and tonight the 38-year-old insisted he was keen to return to his old club in some capacity.

Speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football ahead of Sheffield United vs Arsenal , Evra said: "I just retired five weeks ago and I said maybe I will enjoy life.

"But no! I am doing my coaching badges with Manchester United.

"I want to make it clear, because people think I am working for United, but no.

"There have been some talks, but I am just doing my coaching badges.

"I know everyone is excited to see me back at the club.

"I'm having some important talks behind the scenes, so we will decide if I will work for the club in a certain role or not, we will see.

Pushed on what role he would have at the club, he added: "We don't know yet. The problem is I want to do everything, but in life you can't do everything.

"A role where I can get my hands dirty. If I come back to the club, it's not just to put my face on it, it's because I want my club to go back to the best club in the world.

"As a player, I sacrificed my life to succeed at this club. I don't know which role I will have but I will do the same."
