Patrice Evra has apologised for posting a bizarre video on his Instagram account which shows him kissing a raw turkey.

The former Manchester United defender has become renowned for his out of the ordinary posts on the social media platform.

But Evra, who is currently without a club after leaving West Ham in the summer, received a barrage of criticism from animal rights and vegan activists after his latest post.

The 35-year-old can be seen kissing and caressing the turkey and after being told he could contract deadly virus salmonella, the Frenchman explained he did it as a joke to celebrate the American holiday Thanksgiving.

“Yesterday I posted a video and it went wild, it went crazy,” Evra said today.

“It was just for Thanksgiving. Some people find it funny, some people find it weird, some people find it disgusting. We’re all different thank God.

“I just cuddled, I just kissed the meat. Yeah, I went too far when I sucked the toes of the chicken… it was a bit nasty, nasty.”

It seems the feud may be far from over, however, after Evra took aim at vegan activists, claiming they eat the flowers in his garden.

"But guys, enjoy your lives, stop being boring, stop trying to put negativity on my Instagram," he added. "Vegan people, I don’t say anything when you’re eating all the grass in my garden.

"You eat everything, the flowers, so please just stop being boring. I love this game! I’m weird and happy! So take care and more crazy videos are coming.

"This one was weird and I agree with you but I love you all. Have a nice evening."
