PATNA: The BJP on Monday denied reports in a section of media that Union steel minister and senior JD(U) leader RCP Singh has joined the saffron party.
The rumour spread after Singh in some pictures were seen being welcomed by BJP workers at Hyderabad airport during the saffron party’s national executive meeting held in the town held on July 2 and 3.
The speculation was based on a tweet shared by the BJP’s Telangana unit, which read, “A warm welcome to Shri @RCP_Singh, MP (Rajya Sabha) at the airport for attending BJP NEC meeting to be held in Hyderabad at HICC today and tomorrow.”
The BJP Telangana unit also attached two pictures with the tweet in which Singh is seen being offered a ‘shawl’ and ‘tilak’ on his forehead as a mark of grand welcome by the saffron party workers.
“This news is misleading that RCP Singh participated in the national executive committee meeting of the BJP. He might have come to Hyderabad in connection with the government programme and the BJP workers present at the airport welcomed him,” senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Sushil Kumar Modi tweeted on Monday.
However, neither Singh nor his party JD(U) clarified over the issue.
