Patient taken to hospital after M5 crash causes heavy traffic between Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon

A patient has been taken to hospital following a three-vehicle crash on the M5 northbound .

The collision took place at around 5pm yesterday (July 31) between Junctions 21 ( Weston-super-Mare ) and 20 (Clevedon).

Two lanes were closed as a result of the incident, causing heavy traffic to build up in the area.

A number of First Bus services were also diverted, resulting in further disruption to journeys.

What to do if you're stuck in traffic

A spokeswoman for South Western Ambulance Service has confirmed a person involved in the crash has been taken to hospital.

"We were called at 4.51pm to reports of a road traffic collision, reportedly involving three cars," she said.

"We attended with an Operations Officer, HART (hazardous area response team) and an ambulance.

"One patient was taken to hospital for further treatment."
