Patient taken to hospital after M4 crash

One person has been taken to hospital following a two-car crash on the M4.

Police, firefighters, paramedics and highways workers attended tonight's collision on the westbound carriageway between J19 M32 (Bristol) to J20 M5 J15 ( Almondsbury Interchange).

More than six miles of queues built up after three lanes were closed as emergency crews helped the victims.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews from Temple and Kingswood were mobilised at 17:04 to reports of a collision on the M4 westbound, between junctions 19 and 20.

"On arrival, firefighters found two vehicles involved in a road traffic collision.

"Firefighters used equipment to stabilise the vehicles involved and one high-pressure hose reel to clear the scene.

"One person was injured during the incident and has been led to safety by paramedics. They have since been transported to hospital.

"Police, ambulance and highways colleagues were also in attendance.

"Crews departed at 18:52, leaving the scene in the hands of national highways."
