'Patient' gardai catch out driver and passenger at checkpoint after they were 'too cold' to walk

'Patient' gardai caught out a driver and passenger at a checkpoint after the pair were too cold to walk.

Gardai in Tipperary were carrying out a checkpoint when a car pulled into a garage forecourt.

The driver and passenger promptly left the car while gardai patiently waited.

A few minutes later, the pair returned to the car after deciding it was too cold to walk and drove the car.

The car was stopped and seized for no tax or insurance.

The Garda Tipperary Facebook page posted: "Gardaí from Tipperary Town were carrying out a checkpoint when this car suddenly pulled into a garage forecourt.

"Driver and passenger promptly left whilst Gardai waited patiently.

"Both the driver and passenger decided it was too cold to walk and returned minutes later and drove the car.

"Car was stopped and seized for no tax or insurance."

It comes as gardai have issued a warning as a delivery scam has threatened to ruin some people's Christmas.

A Garda spokesperson said: "As many people continue to receive parcels during the Christmas period, An Garda Síochána would like to remind the public to be wary of unsolicited texts and emails advising of a parcel awaiting delivery and urging customers to click on various links.

"Gardaí have received numerous reports recently of a scam where consumers receive various messages purporting to be from An Post relating to a parcel awaiting delivery and advising persons to click on the link for further details.

"While this particular scam involves An Post, Gardaí would like to advise the public to be vigilant against any such email or text involving any organisation."

An Garda Síochána are advising the public to never click on an unsolicited text or email, never give away personal data like your PIN, card numbers or passwords, and to not respond to such emails or texts.

Instead, Gardaí would advise the public to take a screenshot of the text/email, delete it, and report it to your local Garda Station.
