A patient who was inside an ambulance when it crashed in North Glasgow has died.
Police and ambulance crews were called to Balmore Road at around 9pm on Tuesday June 16 after a collision between a car and an ambulance.
The Scottish Ambulance Service said the vehicle had been en route to the hospital with a patient on board when it was involved in the crash.
The patient was transferred to another ambulance at the scene and taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
Police Scotland has now confirmed the man who had been in the ambulance died in hospital following what they described as a “medical matter”.
Two ambulance staff members were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment, while a student paramedic was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
The 49-year-old driver of the car has been arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and enquiries are ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9pm on Tuesday, 16 June, 2026, we were called to a report of a crash involving a car and an ambulance on Balmore Road, Glasgow.
“Emergency services attended and there were no injuries reported. A male patient who was within the ambulance later died in hospital following a medical matter.
“The driver of the car, a 49-year-old man, was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and enquiries are ongoing.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “One of our ambulances, which was en route to hospital, was involved in a road traffic collision on Balmore Road, Glasgow at 8.58pm on Tuesday evening.
“The patient on board was transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary by another ambulance.
“Two staff members were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, and a student paramedic was transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.”
