Patient, 28, dies with coronavirus as UK hospital deaths mount

A further 372 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died - including a 28-year-old.

Today's tally brings the overall number of confirmed deaths in English hospitals to 81,854.

Patients were aged between 28 and 99 years old. A total of 16 people, aged between 44 to 99 years old, did not have underlying health conditions, the latest figures show.

Anther 42 deaths were confirmed in the South West today (February 23) - a big jump from yesterday's five.

The Midlands once again recorded the highest death toll of 85.

Dates of deaths ranged from 9 December 2020 to 22 February, with the majority being on or after 14 February.

The number of deaths of patients with Covid-19 by region are as follows:

  • East of England - 44
  • London - 47
  • Midlands - 85
  • North East & Yorkshire - 46
  • North West - 58
  • South East – 50
  • South West - 42

Three deaths - in all settings - were confirmed in Bristol today (February 23), and one in South Gloucestershire.

Four fatalities were recorded in Somerset and Bath.

Two deaths were reported in Gloucestershire on February 23, and four in Somerset.
