Patient, 21, dies with coronavirus as hundreds more UK hospital deaths confirmed

More than 300 further coronavirus patients have died in English hospitals - including a 21-year-old with underlying health conditions.

The latest NHS data shows 309 people who tested positive for Covid have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths to 80,424.

Throughout January and February, the South West has reported the lowest number of daily hospital deaths, with nine confirmed today. The Midlands recorded the highest total, with 81.

Patients were aged between 21 and 101 years old, and all but 11 - aged between 42 and 96 years old - had known underlying health conditions.

Dates of deaths ranged from December 20 to February 17, with the majority being on or after February 14.

The number of deaths of patients with Covid-19 by region are as follows:

  • East of England - 48
  • London - 38
  • Midlands - 81
  • North East & Yorkshire - 47
  • North West - 42
  • South East – 44
  • South West - 9

Seven deaths in all settings were confirmed across Bristol and its neighbouring areas on Wednesday.

Across Somerset and Bath, 13 more deaths were confirmed on February 17, and three in Gloucestershire.
