Thai League 1 champions BG Pathum United coach Aurelio Vidmar said his team are getting "better and better" after defeating title contenders True Bangkok United 1-0 on Sunday night.
Teerasil Dangda's 53rd minute penalty kick sealed three points for the home team at Leo Stadium.
The Rabbits are fourth on 16 points, six behind leaders Buriram United on 22, with a game in hand.
The Angels are second with 19 points.
The result was Pathum's third victory in a row after two consecutive defeats, and ended Bangkok's five-game winning run.
"We played well and deserved to win," said Vidmar.
"Our team should become better and better."
BG are still without striker Diogo Luis Santo and defender Victor Cardozo who are recovering from injuries.
Bangkok United coach Totchtawan Sripan said although BG were a strong team, his men deserved at least a point.
"It was not an easy game for us because BG are defending champions and have a lot of good players. But if we had not conceded the penalty, we would have got at least one point."
In an entertaining game at Leo Stadium, both teams had plenty of scoring chances.
Pathum were awarded the penalty after Sarach Yooyen was tripped in the area by Mika Chunuonsee.
In Sunday's other late game, newcomers Nongbua Pitchaya defeated Suphanburi 2-1.
Daisuke Sato opened the scoring for Suphanburi after 22 minutes only for the hosts to earn three points with goals from Hamilton Soares (78) and Yod Chantawong (85).
