This book is so amazingly written that I read the whole thing in the middle of the night!
In this follow on to the Magyk series, Todhunter Moon must go to the midsummer circle and must swear to keep the secrets of her ancient ancestors, the pathfinders. Suddenly, the dragon boat appears, causing awe to occur in the circle and disaster strikes when Mitza Dradden-mora Draa ,who had been snooping at the circle, now suddenly becomes Tod's aunt (as Alice is known as throughout the rest of the book) because Tod's father, who is also the leader of the pathfinders, goes fishing and does not come back. Some of Tod's friends then disappear and Tod goes to rescue them. Will she succeed? Or will she bring chaos to the land as she battles her way through terrifying hoards of, supposedly mythical, Garmin?
I like this book because it is suspenseful and exciting. The writing style is interesting because it has old language used for naming Magykal objects and generally just Magyk, and which helps create a sense of mystery
I would recommend this book to anyone who has read the Magyk series because it has the same characters but they are a lot older (previously Tod was in her teens but now she is 21 and a Queen!).
