'Pathetic' - Chelsea fans fume over performance vs West Brom after dismal first half

Chelsea fans were furious as their defensive frailties were laid bare in a dismal first half against West Brom.

Whilst Thiago Silva's summer signing was supposed to strengthen the Blues, his first Premier League start did not go to plan as West Brom raced into a three-goal lead.

Silva was at fault for one of the goals as he was robbed of the ball by Callum Robinson, who raced through to score.

Here is how fans reacted to the performance.

Chelsea's players did not appear to know what had hit them as they leaked goals at the back.

Going forward, the Blues were a little more impressive but spurned numerous chances, with both Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner guilty of glaring misses.

It appeared to leave Frank Lampard furious on the bench, with West Brom continuing to look dangerous on the break.

Whilst there were positives, with Reece James finding joy on the right flank, the Blues had it all to do for the second half.

Things clearly had not gone to plan for Lampard, who had named Silva captain for the game, praising how much his experience will help the defence.

He told Sky Sports: "Experience, quality, leadership.

"We have had Azpi as our captain but with Azpi not starting today, Thiago takes the armband with his presence.

"He's not going to ... sticking the language in that sense but it doesn't matter with him.

"He does it through his presence, his actions and how he is with people around him.

"He's been a winner throughout his career so I want to see that with us."
