The owner of an award-winning pate business says brand Wales is becoming much more recognised around the world as she explains why the Union flag is on a small number of their products.
Margaret Carter set up Patchwork Foods in 1982 and now employs more than 20 workers in Ruthin.
She this week told Business Post how the reputation of Welsh food and drink was growing.
Her comments came in response to questions on social media about why some of their products are branded under Great British Yummy with the Union flag.
She explained that this branding is only used on four products that are done in partnership with Chase Distillery in Herefordshire, reflecting the fact the firms are based in two parts of the UK.
She added: “If we had used Grey Goose (a French vodka) and included their logo those jars would have had the French Flag on it.”
On whether brand Wales was on the up and helping food and drink sales, she said: “Yes, most definitely, the Welsh Government have been amazing at making this happen and supporting all Welsh food and drink producers, they deserve all the credit.”
She also said: “Trust me as a Welsh employer of over 30 years we try to make all decisions, including marketing, around safeguarding the jobs of the amazing work force we have here in Ruthin and selling our products locally, nationally and internationally.”
Margaret started the business from her home in the 1980s, selling pate to local pubs.
By 1987 she moved the business from her kitchen to a purpose-equipped factory in the heart of Ruthin.
