Pat Spillane unimpressed with 'forgettable' Clare v Derry and Dublin v Cork clashes

Pat Spillane has described Saturday's two All-Ireland quarter-final clashes as 'forgettable'.

The Kerry legend admitted he was happy to have not been at Croke Park to watch Derry beat Clare before Dublin defeated Cork.

Spillane watched the games on TV, but wasn't impressed with what he saw.

Speaking on The Sunday Game on RTE, he said: "This was two turkey shoots. This was two very good teams playing two very average teams.

"A lot of companies give money back if you're not satisfied with a product. If those terms and conditions operated last night, people who attended those two games would be demanding their money back and that's not to [take anything away from Derry and Dublin].

"Derry were superb. What I like about Derry is they're a Croke Park team. What do I mean by that? A Croke Park team - physicality, fitness, conditioning, running, pace. They have it all. Lethal on the goals.

"Clare were lambs to the slaughter. They sat deep, allowed the runners to come at them and there was only one result - a 14-point hammering.

"The other game was a straight sort of game. If ever I saw a team sleepwalk to victory, Dublin sleepwalked to victory in about second gear against a Cork team who were only in damage limitation mode. Therefore a moral victory and ran out of steam in the second half so file those two games last night under the forgettable category."
