Pat Shurmur ranked as one of NFL’s worst coaches by Sporting News

The New York Giants aren’t exactly viewed in a positive light across the league right now, and various media outlets have been piling on for the better part of the last several months.

That disrespect continued recently when Sporting News released their list of the best and worst coaches in the NFL, where Pat Shurmur of the New York Giants checked in near the very bottom.

Although Shurmur moved up one spot from a year ago at this time, he was still among the league’s very worst.

No. 29: Pat Shurmur, New York Giants

Last year: 30

Record: 15-34, .306

Playoffs: 0-0, .000

Shurmur moves up one spot after a 5-11 season, but several big questions remain in New York. Saquon Barkley is a star, but the Giants traded Odell Beckham Jr. and drafted Daniel Jones in the first round. Shurmur faces a lot of pressure to right the ship for the Giants, a franchise once known for long-term stability.

The only coaches Shurmur managed to edge out were Brian Flores (Miami Dolphins), Zac Taylor (Cincinnati Bengals) and Kliff Kingsbury (Arizona Cardinals), who are all first-year coaches.

Several other first-year head coaches were also placed above Shurmur, who took over a completely depleted team poisoned with a losing, me-first culture a season ago.

Whether just or unjust, it’s up to Shurmur and the Giants to prove these critics wrong here in 2019.
