NEW YORK _ Pat Shurmur said he feels just as much pressure to win in the final four weeks of this season as he always has.
"I feel like I'm coaching for my job every day," Shurmur said, referring to the pressure of being an NFL head coach. "That's the way we function as players. You're playing for your job. And you're coaching for your job every day.
"We understand this is a results business," the Giants' head coach continued. "And the ultimate result is winning games, and along the way doing the things necessary to win a game and then consistently win. That's just the reality of it."
Shurmur was aware that co-owner Steve Tisch had declined on Tuesday to provide a vote of confidence in Shurmur and GM Dave Gettleman. But Shurmur said his only focus is on trying to snap the eight-game losing streak of his lowly Giants (2-10).
"I really have no reaction to that," he said of ownership declining to endorse him. "I was made aware that he spoke yesterday, and I'm sure he's disappointed with the results this season just like I am and we are. And I'm trying to get this team ready to play and win against Philly."
Shurmur was asked if he had caught up with veteran corner Janoris Jenkins, who'd criticized the coaching staff for not letting him follow other teams' top receivers.
"Yeah I've spoken to him," Shurmur said.
Jenkins' bristling was the latest example of a player chafing during this miserable season.
Shurmur said the conversation "was great."
"What I speak to the players about, I keep between the player and myself," he said.
Jenkins said he didn't want to talk on Wednesday.
The Giants are in danger of tying the longest single-season losing streak in franchise history at nine, set in 1976.
Shurmur said, "I don't think you're avoiding that type of stuff" because "what you're trying to do is win the game on the positive side of things. So I get that, and all that kind of stuff adds up. But we don't focus on that. We're trying to do what we can to win a game."
