With Magic Johnson officially out of the picture with the Los Angeles Lakers, a reunion between he and Pat Riley in Los Angeles was already out of the question.
But if anybody was hoping that Riley would leave the Miami Heat and come back to the Lakers to help restore the glory he helped foster, the legendary player and executive has already ruled that out. According to Shandel Richardson of The Athletic, Riley intends to finish his basketball career with Miami.
Riley wasn’t seen as a likely possibility anyway, but he was definitely someone who came up often for Lakers fans dreaming of going back to the glory days. But Riley’s statement is just the latest, along with the Lakers are already engaging in a coaching search after firing Luke Walton, that Rob Pelinka is in charge and likely will be for the foreseeable future.
