Pat McAfee joins ESPN’s Thursday night college football crew

Former Indianapolis Colts punter and still fan favorite Pat McAfee found a new gig for the 2019 football season as he will be joining ESPN’s Thursday night college football crew, joining former teammate Matt Hasselbeck.

Now working as a color analyst for the primetime programming, McAfee actually considered a return to the NFL. However, he will be joining the booth for the upcoming college season, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

“I am so excited and ecstatic to get in the booth,” McAfee said via Sports Illustrated. “I’ve only been in the booth twice, but I’ve had the time of my life in there. When I didn’t get Monday Night Football, I was a little disappointed. Thought about getting back into the kicking game.”

The former Colts punter retired from the league following the 2016 season and has had several gigs working in sports media. From Barstool Sports to running his own podcast, McAfee has kept in touch with the game. He also signed a deal with the WWE.

McAfee has made it known there were disappointments when he campaigned to join the Monday Night Football crew when Jason Witten announced his return to the NFL but didn’t get the job.

Now, he will be bringing life to the college scene with his former teammate in Hasselbeck—which could potentially pave the way to him making it into the NFL booth.
