Pat McAfee Casts Doubt Over Future on ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ in Statement

Pat McAfee has been a mainstay on ESPN’s flagship Saturday morning show College GameDay for the last two seasons.

The expectation was that the arrangement between McAfee and GameDay would continue, especially after McAfee signed a lucrative contract with ESPN earlier this year.

Chris Vannini of The Athletic ran a poll for a story on the site that revealed that 48.9% don’t like McAfee on GameDay. McAfee, referencing that poll, released a statement that casts doubt over his future with the show.

“To the 49%, I have some great news,” McAfee said in a post on X. “I have heard you all very loud and clear since the beginning of my stint on GameDay. It’s one of the biggest reasons why I have not re-signed a contract with the legendary show. I’m not right for some crowds and the ‘distinguished’ College Football folks are definitely one of those. Excited to enjoy the rest of this year, that’s shaping up to be a GREAT one, and then see what the future holds,” McAfee continued.

McAfee’s daily weekday show, The Pat McAfee Show, was brought to ESPN from FanDuel earlier this year, and McAfee’s daily show and his appearances on GameDay were part of ESPN’s content plan for him.

However, it sounds like McAfee’s future on Saturday morning GameDay telecasts following this football season remains to be seen, even if McAfee remains at ESPN for the long haul.
