Pat Kenny tipping Ryan Tubridy to overcome coronavirus and return to The Late Late Show this week

Pat Kenny has tipped Ryan Tubridy to be back on our screens for The Late Late Show on Friday.

The chat show host’s predecessor said he has been in contact with Tubs, 46, over the past few days following his diagnosis with Covid-19.

Asked if he was tempted to put his hat in the ring to fill in this Friday, 72-year-old Kenny, inset, said: “No, I was chatting to Ryan yesterday and I expect him back on Friday, yes absolutely.

“He’s in good form. Obviously he has to be careful, he is socially isolating and it will have been two full weeks on Friday since the last time he was working.

“And he’ll be checked before he goes back but I think he is very happy the social isolation has worked.”

RTE confirmed Oliver Callan will continue to host The Ryan Tubridy Show on Radio One but remained tight-lipped about confirming any plans for this Friday’s Late Late Show.

Miriam O’Callaghan stood in for Tubridy last week, when tribute was paid to the men and women of Ireland’s frontline services.

And despite Newstalk host Kenny backing Tubs to return sooner rather than later, fans are already backing Tommy Tiernan to be the next Late Late Show host.

The 50-year-old funnyman is now 20/1 from 40/1 with BoyleSports to be the next permanent presenter of the famous Friday night gig, with O’Callaghan punted in to 15/2 from 25/1.
