Pat Kenny reveals the secret to his youthful skin is a glass of red wine a day

Veteran broadcaster Pat Kenny has revealed the secret to his glowing youthful skin is all down to good genes – and a regular tipple.

The 71-year-old Killiney broadcaster said he still loves his radio and TV jobs and has no plans to retire any time soon.

He told Dublin Live: “It’s all in the DNA. I can’t say it’s healthy living although I’ve never smoked and maybe that helps a little bit.

“I do enjoy a glass of wine and maybe that keeps the blood thin.”

The Newstalk host will present a number of current affairs shows on Virgin Media this year with the first of the Pat Kenny’s Big Debate series airing on Wednesday. He revealed: “There are half a dozen programmes between now and the end of the year.

“It’s not going to be as regular as my other shows but it suits me better to do these big shows from time to time rather than being a slave to it every week.”

The former Late Late Show host said he had no plans to hang up his mic, adding: “What happens is eventually the public retires you. When people don’t want to hear you or see you any more it’s what happens.

“I remember Michael Caine said that, he said actors don’t retire, the public retire the actors.

“When the roles stop coming in or they don’t want to hear you any more, your time is up.” He added his interest in politics is as keen today as it was when he started his journalism career more than 40 years ago, though he’s never met anyone like Donald Trump.

He said: “His driving passion as a dealmaker is to get deals but politics is a bit more nuanced than he thinks it is.

“He thinks when he slaps tariffs on China the Chinese government in some way pays them.

“It’s not, it’s the American customer who pays for their iPhone which goes up in price or their barbeque which is manufactured in China.

“It’s fascinating to watch him, we’ve never had anyone like him.”
