Pat Cummins doubtful for ODI series against India

NEW DELHI: Having played the fifth Ashes Test with a suspected broken wrist, Australia captain Pat Cummins could miss the three-match ODI series against India next month.

Cricket Australia is yet to reveal the extent of Cummins' left wrist injury.

Australia's ODI series against India is scheduled to begin on September 22 in Mohali.

According to the 'Sydney Morning Herald,' "two sources with knowledge of the matter but not authorized to speak publicly say medical staff have not ruled out a possible fracture."

Last week, the Australian pace spearhead injured his wrist on the first day of the final Ashes Test at the Oval. He had played the rest of the Test with a severely strapped wrist, and while the injury did not appear to hinder Cummins' bowling, it did cause him agony while batting.

Cummins was supposed to rest after playing six Tests in two months, including the World Test Championship final against India.

CA is expected to announce the selections for Australia's next white-ball tours, which include trips to South Africa and India, next week.

In Cummins' absence, Mitchell Marsh is set to take the helm. The all-rounder is also a candidate to be selected Australia's T20 captain.

In Cummins' absence in India earlier this year, star batsman Steve Smith led Australia.

Australia will play three T20Is and five ODIs against South Africa beginning August 30, before travelling to India for the ODIs.
