Pat Bowlen was the father of ‘Sunday Night Football’

“Sunday Night Football” was the most-watched television program in the United States last year. The league has late Broncos owner Pat Bowlen to thank for that.

During an appearance on NFL Network last week, Judy Battista explained that Bowlen was the father of “SNF.”

“He had an enormous influence on the league,” Battista said. “Particularly in broadcasting — he was the chairman of the broadcasting committee at the time that the broadcasting contracts really blew up.”

Bowlen died last week at age 75. He will be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August.
