When Carson Brown brought out the "ERAs" series, where he challenges any rider, any place, on any machine, I knew it'd be cool—everything the guy does is cool. But when it turned out the series was basically him battling current and ex Supercross superstars, as in the best in the business, on clapped-out or insanely tricked-out 2-strokes, the series entered a different stratosphere of coolness.
This latest edition to the ERAs series is by far the best one yet, and I'll buy you a drink if it's not the best thing you watch on the internet today. We've seen Carson take on Ken Roczen before, and Ken Roczen showed why he's still grabbing wins at the highest level of SX and MX, unlike current and ex-pro racers who've faced Brown in the series.
But we've never seen Brown take on two racers at once, much less ones whose names carry such weight: Travis Pastrana and Ken Roczen.
We have to start by cutting Pastrana some slack here because, even though he's probaly 80% the reason I pursued motorcycle journalism so doggedly—I'll meet you one day—the guy's 42 years old and held together by zip ties and a refusal to just give up.
While we didn't expect much from Pastrana, even though the race was in his backyard, he still provided the most epic, iconic 2-stroke for this series yet: the RMZilla 500. The RMZilla 500 was custom-built to tackle the Red Bull Straight Rhythm event in 2014, meaning it's not intended to rail berms, but that didn't stop the lads one bit.
I won't ruin the ending, but it is by far the closest ERA's race and equally the best of the entire series, and I'd argue the most entertaining dirt-related video you'll watch all week.
