Passport control chaos in Dublin Airport as hundreds of people left in hour long queues

Hundreds of passengers have been left outraged due to hour long queues at Dublin Airport passport control.

On a busy Bank Holiday Monday, queues in Terminal 1 are backed up as far as the corridor from the gates.

The situation has been called a "mortifying shambles" by Today FM's Ed Smith who is currently stuck in the queue at the busy travel port.

He said: "This is the queue for passport control at Dublin Airport . It's literally backed up all the way up the escalators and down an entire corridor. A mortifying shambles."

He also added that taxi queues were extremely long once passengers were out of the terminal.

Several images have been shared by passengers who are stuck in the queue, including young children.

One mother said she was stuck with her three-year-old for at least 45 minutes.

She said: "At least 45 minute queues for immigration in terminal 1. With a three year old. On a bank holiday. Unexpected? Or poor planning by the airport?"

While another passenger added: "Got through once the E-Gates we’re back open. Wtf were Immigration at with having them switched off? Though credit due to the Staff at Dublin Airport handing out water to people waiting."

Dublin Airport have apologised to customers in response to the tweets, and added: "Passport Control is managed and operated by the Irish Naturalisation Immigration Service."

In response, a passenger said: "You can blame the INIS all you want, but how is there not better coordination on both sides? This is genuinely embarrassing, it’s a bank holiday weekend, and also, how have the electronic booths not been resolved yet?"
