Ryan Yates has said there is no place he would rather play his football after signing a long-term contract with Nottingham Forest.
The Nigel Doughty Academy product has penned a new three-and-a-half-year deal with the club, which will keep him at the City Ground until 2023.
Yates underwent surgery on a long-standing knee problem in the summer and missed the opening months of the season.
The 22-year-old made his comeback in October, but has been restricted to just four appearances – against Hull City, Luton Town, Derby County and Bristol City – where he picked up a red card.
“It means so much to me, having been a the club for so long,” Yates told the club’s website after signing a new deal. “I feel like I am progressing really well and there is no place I’d rather play my football.
“It has been a long journey with lots of ups and downs. I came in at eight-years-old and came through the ranks with the dream to play at The City Ground one day. I have been lucky enough to play a few times and I just want to keep progressing and learning on and off the pitch.
“I was watching as a fan for about 10 years before I got my chance to play, being a passionate supporter of the club for so long and you want to reflect what you’d like to see on the pitch from a fans’ point of view.
“I’d like to mainly thank Gary Brazil the academy manager for most of the time I have been here, and there is so many staff who have coached me and helped me on the pitch as well as off it. I am forever grateful and they know who they are.”
