Passersby left 'shocked' after spotting mouse scurrying around Edinburgh city centre Starbucks

Passersby have said that they were left "shocked" when they spotted a mouse scurrying around a Starbucks café in Edinburgh after opening hours.

In a video sent to Edinburgh Live, Samir Motey captured the rodent in Starbucks' George Street branch, on the corner of Hanover Street.

The video was taken last week on Friday night (14 February) after the store had closed but was spotted by Samir and a friend from the street that evening.

It is understood that staff at the store were put on "high alert" after finding rodent droppings in the building, which Starbucks says is over 250 years old.

Management at the George Street branch reportedly called in Rentokil pest control services immediately and insist they have since had the all-clear after a food safety audit was carried out by a third party.

A Starbucks Coffee spokesperson said: "Our customers’ health and safety is and always will be, our highest priority.

"Since this video was taken the store has passed its annual cleanliness and food safety audit conducted by an independent contractor and there no rodent problem in the George Street store."
