Passersby help to bring woman down from bridge

Members of the public helped emergency workers to bring a woman down from a bridge in Wirral.

The emergency services were called out to New Ferry Bypass at around 9.10pm last night ( Thursday) following a concern for the safety of a woman on a bridge.

The woman was then brought down from the bridge and taken to hospital where she was detained under the Mental Health Act.

A police spokesman said to the ECHO: " Emergency services were called to New Ferry Bypass at around 9.10pm to a concern for the safety of a woman on the bridge.

"With assistance from members of the public and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS), she was brought down and taken to hospital where she was detained under the Mental Health Act.

"The road was closed while we dealt with the incident."
