Passengers vomiting and in tears on plane after four failed landings in Storm Ciara

Passengers on board a flight from Ireland were left throwing up and crying after the plane made four failed attempts to land in Storm Ciara.

Rugby fan Jason Allen, 47, from Pontarddulais, Swansea, had travelled over to Dublin to watch Wales' defeat against the Irish on Saturday (February 8).

Despite concerns that his Aer Lingus flight to Birmingham would be cancelled due to the weather conditions, Mr Allen was surprised to hear his flight would depart as planned at 12.20pm, reports Wales Online.

However the flight was met with severe weather on approach to the midlands, with the intense turbulence caused by the storm leading to four failed landing attempts.

Mr Allen, who was travelling with a group of friends, described how the nightmare journey saw fellow passengers in tears and throwing up.

He said: "We were all happy to go home to be honest with you but if we knew now what we didn't know then I wouldn't have got on the plane.

"Taking off was a bit shaky because of the wind but the journey was fine but while we descended to go into Birmingham it was really shaky and as we were coming down the plane was shooting back up.

"People were being sick and quite a few people were crying and frightened because we were circling and dropping and experiencing full on turbulence.

"I was annoyed because the flight in front of us to Birmingham was cancelled so they knew what the weather was going to be like."

After the fourth failed landing, the decision was made to divert the plane to Liverpool where a bus would be waiting to take them back to Birmingham.

On Sunday Dublin Airport said: "A small number of flights have been cancelled to/from Dublin Airport today due to Storm Ciara.

"The weather conditions may also result in some flight delays. Please check latest flight information with your airline before coming to the airport today."

The flight was one of many that tested the skills of pilots as a result of fierce winds and heavy rain caused by Storm Ciara this weekend.

In footage recorded at Manchester Airport, a keen plane spotter captured the struggle planes had while landing, recording multiple flights having to go-around - including the world's largest passenger plane, the Airbus A380, of Emirates. That flight eventually diverted to Frankfurt.
