Passengers using lifeline Isle of Arran ferry service given weather warning

A ferry operator has warned of potential disruption on a lifeline route in North Ayrshire today.

Caledonian MacBrayne has issued advice to essential travellers using the service between Ardrossan and Brodick on the Isle of Arran.

Due to strong winds being forecast, a 'be aware' notice has been applied to sailings meaning there could be disruption or short-notice cancellations.

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, CalMac is operating a reduced timetable until at least Tuesday, April 14.

Cash is not being accepted on boats or at ports and the company is not taking bookings for crossings up to and including Wednesday, July 15.

In a statement on its website, CalMac said: "We are operating a turn up and go service for essential travel only and in line with government advice, have closed our on-board retail facilities at this time.

"All islands will receive a regular lifeline service ensuring essential goods and services are delivered."

Other measures introduced include the closure of the car park at Ardrossan ferry terminal until further notice.

Public transport providers have advised that services which continue to run are for key workers and essential journeys only.
