Passengers open emergency door and flee onto wing after plane engine spits FIRE

Terrified passengers opened an emergency door and ran onto a plane's wing after its engine burst into flames.

Video captured by one of the passengers shows the orange-red flames blasting from the Utair Boeing 737 engine on the runway before takeoff at Vnukovo airport in Russia's capital city of Moscow.

At the same time, the public address system is playing the safety announcement in English, telling passengers to read the on-board safety card.

The Utair airline said there were three passengers who opened an emergency hatch, according to Russia Today.

They reportedly walked out on to the right wing but returned to the cabin at the request of the crew.

It's said the passengers received no instructions from the crew member regarding the fire and were told the situation was 'normal'.

The airline said the flame was caused by the disrupted air flow during the engine start as the plane was preparing for takeoff.
