Passengers hit out at long queues at Manchester Airport passport control

Passengers have reacted angrily this morning after they were greeted by long queues at passport control at Manchester Airport.

Those landing at terminal two this morning reported queues snaking the length of the approaching corridoors.

Paul Horrocks, who arrived at T2 early this morning said: "Horrendous queues for passport control at T2. Apparently it’s a bit of a surprise planes with passengers have landed at the same time.

"Just so you don't belittle this down to anger at having to queue. It’s more than that. The lack of planning and foresight. Understanding your flight plans & passenger load. The airport (T2) is a shambles from arrival, passport, taxi rank. The whole process is broke."

Choral conductor Christopher Barr said on Twitter: "Is this acceptable for the directors queue at immigration the length of the whole terminal this morning. What a welcome."

Whilst Amy Dowling said: "You're having a laugh with this queue in arrivals for UK citizens.

"It's the length of the airport! You have a lot of very unhappy travellers and one member of staff taking the verbal abuse. Shame on you, get more staff here and open more passport control desks."

Some said it took over half an hour to clear passport control.

The airport have acknowledged many had a longer wait than normal.

It is understood a number of flights arriving outside their scheduled time led to a build up of passengers at the passport gates.

They responded to a number of disgruntled passengers saying they were working with Border Force, the government agency whose staff carry out the checks, to clear the queues as quickly as possible.

They also pointed out T2 was currently undergoing a £1 billion transformation which will increase its capacity by 150 percent.

The M.E.N has approached Border Force for a comment.
