Passengers had to use ladders to climb out of a tram after it got stuck at Manchester Victoria

A tram is stuck at Manchester Victoria station due to a problem with the brakes.

The incident is causing delays to Altrincham, Bury and East Didsbury services, while Manchester Airport trams have been diverted to Piccadilly.

A passenger stuck behind the faulty tram said they have been told it is not moving because 'the brakes are stuck'.

She told the M.E.N: "I'm stuck on the tram behind the one with the fault so we're only a few metres away from the platform at Victoria.

"We've been here for about 20 minutes now - our driver has said the brakes are stuck but that it should be fixed 'soon'."

Commuters on the faulty service and others stuck behind it have been forced to get off the service. Staff provided ladders to help them to clamber down.

Passengers have also complained they are stuck at other stations on the network.

Matt Dean tweeted: "Been sat at Crumpsall for about 20 minutes. How minor is 'minor'?"

Gary Thwaites wrote: "Minor delay is stuck on a tram for 15 mins going nowhere."

Another Twitter user posted: "Is my tram ever going to leave Central Park?"
