Passengers forced to walk down Metro tracks as trains hit by major disruption

Major disruption is set to last for most of the day on the Metro after two separate overhead lines came down in one day.

Trains were already off between Benton and Tynemouth on Monday due to overhead lines coming down, when another line fell down near Chillingham Road.

There are now no trains running between Benton and St James.

Passengers were stuck on a train in the Walkergate area after the line collapsed at around 1pm on Monday.

Stranded passengers were asked to get off the train and walk back to Walkergate station.
