Passengers flying into Dublin Airport will be allowed to travel to other counties despite lockdown in the capital

Passengers flying into Dublin Airport will be allowed to travel to other counties while the capital is in lockdown.

This is similar to the restrictions that were introduced in Kildare, Laois, and Offaly where tourists were allowed to travel through the counties.

Those arriving in Dublin Airport will be able to move around by private and public transport to the destinations they will be staying in, the Irish Independent reports.

Today Taoiseach Michael Martin and his predecessor, Tanaiste Leo Varadkar are meeting with a special Cabinet COVID sub-committee to decide if Dublin moves to Level 3 of Living with COVID - the virus management plan they unveiled on Tuesday.

The Taoiseach is expected to make the announcement at around 6 pm today.

Dubliners face fresh travel restrictions, far tougher measures on gatherings and bans on all amateur sporting events and matches if NPHET's official recommendations made yesterday get the green light.

A decision on the move to Level 3 is due later today - including if Cabinet agrees to health experts' request that indoor dining in Dublin's pubs and restaurants be halted - effectively shutting those businesses which can't provide takeaway services.
