Passengers evacuated from train after landslide in Kent

Nineteen people have been evacuated from a train which became stuck after a landslide in Kent, British Transport Police (BTP) said.

The train became stuck between West Malling and Borough Green, and rescue attempts were hindered by localised flooding, according to Network Rail Kent and Sussex.

BTP Kent tweeted that they were arranging a coach for the 19 people who were evacuated, adding: “This incident is likely to have an adverse effect on trains in the area for the next several hours. Please check before you travel!”

There were no injuries. Replying to a message on Twitter, Network Rail Kent and Sussex wrote: "Hi Andy, thank you for your concern, and we're pleased to say nobody has been hurt, although we now have a train with some grass in the coupler and mud in the bogies."

It comes a day after three people, including the driver and conductor, were killed after a ScotRail train derailed following a landside after heavy rain in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire.
