Passengers caught up in drama as bus hits railway bridge

A road had to be closed after a bus carrying passengers struck a railway bridge.

Police confirmed the Cumfybus crashed in Whiston this morning.

Pictures from Rainhill Rocks show the bus at the top end of the bridge after the accident which happened on Cumber Lane shortly before 11am.

Merseyside Police said the bus had passengers on board at the time but nobody is thought to have been injured as a result of the crash.

Travel monitors INRIX said the road was closed both ways from Driveway to Milton Avenue after "a bus had collided into the bridge over the railway".

There is no suggestion train services were affected.

Council officials were informed as the accident saw some oil spill from the bus - police added.

"There were passengers on board but there were no injuries."

Motorists were advised to find alternative routes amid the disruption and while recovery and the oil spillage clean up was completed.
