Passengers at Belfast City Airport 'trapped inside after security doors shut down'

Passengers were reportedly trapped inside after security doors "shut down" at Belfast City Airport on Wednesday night.

A man on a flight from Edinburgh claimed that dozens of passengers were unable to leave baggage reclaim.

Footage from the scene shows the stranded passengers at around 9.20pm on Wednesday, Belfast Live reports.

He alleged parents with young children were left feeling frustrated as their little ones were tired, but claimed staff were unable to sort the problem right away and when they were able to get outside, no explanation was offered.

He claimed: "People stuck for over 30mins and the staff can’t fix the electronic doors.

"Passengers were shouting that they want to go out as taxis are waiting outside and people with kids were exhausted.

"They let us go after over 30 minutes without explanation. There was some police outside building too."

A spokesperson for Belfast City Airport said: "On Wednesday evening, arriving passengers were held in the baggage reclaim area for nine minutes after the exiting security doors automatically shut down.

"Passengers left through adjoining doors."
