Passenger terror at Sandycove DART station over fears that gun taken on train

Passengers were left terrified today at a Dublin DART station over fears that a gun had been taken on board a train.

Gardai rushed to the scene at Sandycove station in south Dublin this evening over reports that a group of men on board were carrying a deadly weapon.

It led to DART delays, with Irish Rail saying: "Delays to southbound DARTs as Gardai deal with an incident on board Dart at Sandycove station. Update to follow."

Following the incident, delays of up to 40 mins were reported to services particularly for Greystones/Howth.

A number of units, including armed gardai, attended the scene and at least three men were taken away from the station.

Gardai confirmed that no gun was found at the station following a search.

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardaí were alerted to a possible firearm incident aboard a train near Sandycove, Co.Dublin earlier this evening, 12 March 2021.

"A number of Garda units attended. No firearm was discovered at the scene."
