Passenger speaks out after easyJet flight where 'drunk rugby player' harassed cabin crew

'No woman should have to tolerate abuse at work'- These were the words of an outraged passenger who witnessed a "drunk rugby player" harass a member of cabin crew.

Police were called to Bristol Airport following the incident on board an easyJet flight before it took off yesterday, May 10.

Officers assisted crews to remove the man from the plane, which was travelling to Belfast at around 2:20pm.

No one was arrested, according to  Avon and Somerset Police.

Rachel Davies, who was seated a few feet away from the action, said the behaviour of a 20-strong group of rugby players even before they entered the plane was inappropriate.

HMV has reopened in Cribbs Causeway just three months after it closed

She claims the men were swearing and being uncomfortably loud in front of families with young children.

"They were being very rowdy," said Rachel. "There was a lot of anti social behaviour, swearing, being very loud. You could see the pack mentality.

"When we got on the plane, the air hostess requested over the microphone that people did try and keep the noise down for the 55 minute flight.

"I saw one of the crew members get very upset. A man came up to her and she said to him 'I don't want to talk to you, I'm treating this as sexual harassment, please go and sit down.

"No woman should have to tolerate abuse at work.

"The captain then came on and said they were waiting for the police to arrive."

An easyJet spokesperson apologised for any inconvenience.

He  said: "easyJet’s cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.

“Whilst such incidents are rare we take them very seriously, do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour onboard.

“We would like to apologise to passengers for the delay and thank them for their understanding.

“The safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew is always easyJet's priority."

A Bristol Airport spokesperson said: "We want all passengers flying from Bristol Airport to have an enjoyable start to their journey, but anti-social behaviour by a minority can spoil the experience for everyone.

"Any anti-social behaviour by a passenger is not accepted by the Airport or airlines and could result in passengers being refused travel.

"Through coordinated involvement from the airport police, catering managers, airlines and airport’s operational teams may result in the passenger being denied boarding and subsequently missing their flight.

" Bristol Airport provides full support of the industry’s “One Too Many” awareness campaign, which has reached two million people to date. It provides a helpful reminder to passengers about the consequences of disruptive behaviour at airports or on board flights.

"Disruptive behaviour on-board an aircraft is illegal and the worst cases can result in fines, travel bans and custodial sentences."
